Local initiatives focusing on sustainable natural resources management and sustainable human resource development are implemented in a community participatory mode and in partnership with the locally present resource institutions including different departments of the State Government. |

Among the community participatory initiatives, the Sustainable Learning Centre(SLC link), an after-school facility for the children in the 11-13 years mould them in to environmentally conscious, socially responsible and economically productive individuals. Health, hygiene, nutrition, skills for life and livelihood are part of the programmes implemented for sustainable human development.
Water and Food Security (WaFoS) Programme(WaFoS link), a flagship programme of ISD and an all-encompassing initiative for sustainable development from ‘water for life and water for livelihood’ perspective isbenefitted by nearly 1000 farmer households in the 30 Panchayats (in Thiruvallur district of TamilNadu). Besides, this WaFoS Programme offers a plethora of opportunities for experiential learning, exploring new partnerships to work with farmers, women, youth and children, and for new research ideas.
